Statement of Faith

Philip Pockey

I, Philip Pockey, believe:

  • That G-d created the heavens and the earth (Genesis 1:1) and everything in them in six 24-hour days about 6000 years ago, and everything He created and made was very good (Genesis 1:31)
  • That the institution of the Sabbath (rest) of G-d began on the seventh day after the six days of creation (Genesis 1:31, Genesis 2:1-3)
  • That Adam is the first man created by G-d and Eve is the first woman created by G-d (Genesis 1:27, Genesis 2:7, Genesis 2:15-18, Genesis 2:21-25)
  • That there is just one race of people in the world, the human race (Genesis 1:27)
  • That marriage is the holy union of one man to one woman (Genesis 2:21-24), and should not, except for unfaithfulness, be broken by man (Matthew 19:3-6)
  • That Jesus is the only begotten (only-born) son of G-d (John 1:14, John 1:18, John 3:16, John 3:18, 1 John 4:9, Hebrews 11:17)
  • That Jesus is the second man and the last Adam (1 Corinthians 15:45-47)
  • That when Adam sinned, all humans sinned, because we were all in Adam when he sinned (Romans 5:12)
  • That death entered the world when Adam sinned (Romans 5:12, 1 Corinthians 15:21, Genesis 2:17)
  • That death is an enemy G-d alone can defeat (1 Corinthians 15:26)
  • That Jesus is the remedy for the sin of Adam; He is that Seed of the woman, who will crush the head of the serpent, promised by G-d after Adam sinned (Genesis 3:15)
  • That Mary, the mother of Jesus, was “…found with child of the Holy Ghost” and is that prophesied “…virgin … with child” and gave birth to her first-born son, that second man, the Seed of the woman, the infant Jesus (Matthew 1:18-25, Isaiah 7:14)
  • That Jesus is without sin (2 Corinthians 5:21, Hebrews 4:15, 1 John 3:5, Isaiah 53:9, 1 Peter 2:22)
  • That Jesus was crucified and died on a wooden cross for my sins and the sin of all mankind (John 3:16, Luke 23:33-46, John 19:16-30, Mark 15:22-37, Matthew 27:33-50 ), and by the power of G-d, was raised from the dead and thus brought victory over death for all who believe (1 Corinthians 15:12-22)
  • That my sins are forgiven and I have become able to live, by the Holy Spirit, a holy life, pleasing to G-d, and must produce fruit in keeping with repentance (Matthew 3:8), and must continually turn away (repent) from the dictates of my flesh (Romans 8:13, Galatians 6:8, Revelation 2:7, 2:11, 2:17, 2:26, 3:5, 3:12, 3:21)
  • That the entire earth was flooded by G-d, and the only human survivors were Noah, his wife, Noah’s three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth, and their wives, along with the animals and other creatures that were sent by G-d, by their kinds, into the ark built by Noah at G-d’s command (Genesis 6:17-22, Genesis 7:1-24)
  • That “… the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished” (2 Peter 3:6), and the earth we know today was shaped by that judgement, and all people, indeed all things living, are under G-d’s judgement of death (Genesis 2:17, 3:8-19), and the only way to have life is in Christ Jesus (John 14:6, Acts 3:18-26)
